Cupboard 443

Narrow tall cupboard — a week of clothes for two.

Cupboard 443Visualisation
Generated image, not a photograph — the first set is not in a van yet. The dimensions, front layout and construction are accurate: they come from the same data as the configurator.

One 40 × 170 cm front. With the supplied hanging rail it is a wardrobe that holds a week for two; with the shelves in it becomes a pantry. External size 443 × 1,740 mm, so it fits under any H2 roof and in most H1 vans behind the driver's seat.

What you get

  • Front 40 × 170 cm, external size 443 × 1,740 mm
  • Hanging rail and three shelves included
  • Buildable lower with a 120 cm front: then 1,240 mm
  • Magnetic latch that stays shut on the road

What customers thought

There is nothing here yet, and that is correct: this is a new business and we do not publish reviews that do not exist. Once the first customers have taken delivery, this is where you will read what they thought — including what disappointed them, because nobody believes a page with only five stars.

Are you the first? Tell us how it went — including anything that went wrong. We publish it unedited, with our answer below it. info@vanquarters.com

What you still buy yourself for this

We do not sell electrics, plumbing or gas, so you buy this elsewhere. Here is what it has to meet, so you do not have to guess. There is not a single affiliate link: the moment we earn something on it, the advice is worthless.

Battery, charger and fuse box
Cupboard 643 only: the bottom bay is 40 cm high, ventilated and has a mounting plate. Carries up to 40 kg.
Coat hangers
The rail is included. Slim 40 cm hangers fit; wide 45 cm ones just miss in the Cupboard 443.

Tools you need

  • 4 mm hex key — included
  • Cordless driver with a cross-head bit
  • Tape measure and pencil
  • Spirit level of at least 40 cm
  • Drill with an 8 mm bit for the floor fixings

How you assemble it

Six phases, and each phase ends with a check. That is the difference between a unit that stands crooked and one that fits.

  1. 1

    Lay everything out

Sort the profiles by length and lay them on the marked place of the floor poster. Count the corner connectors and T-nuts before you start.

Check now: Do the counts match the packing list? One missing T-nut costs you an hour later.

  2. 2

    Build the base frame

Join the four bottom profiles with the corner connectors, finger tight. Do not tighten yet: the frame has to move to get it square.

Check now: Measure both diagonals. Equal within 2 mm means it is square. If not: push the long diagonal in and measure again.

  3. 3

    Add the uprights

Place the vertical profiles at the corners and the intermediate positions. The middle upright sits exactly between two fronts and decides whether your doors will close.

Check now: Put the spirit level against each upright. Everything plumb before you continue.

  4. 4

    Panels in and tighten

Slide the plywood panels into the frame and only then tighten all the corner connectors, from bottom to top and always diagonally opposite.

Check now: Any play between panel and profile? The panels are structural; loose wood will rattle on the road.

  5. 5

    Hang and adjust the fronts

Clip the hinges in and adjust them with the two screws: the front one for left-right, the rear one for depth.

Check now: Are the gaps between the fronts equal everywhere? Three millimetres is right — that clearance is built into the front.

  6. 6

    Fix it in the van

Bolt the unit into the body's original mounting points, or through the floor with a spreader plate underneath. Never into the wall lining alone.

Check now: Grab the unit at the top and pull firmly. If anything moves, it will move in an emergency stop too.

What people ask about this

Does the door stay shut while driving?
Yes. There is a magnetic latch you have to push open deliberately; an ordinary push-to-open catch springs open over a speed bump.
Can the cupboard be lower?
Yes, between 1,240 and 1,440 mm. You cut the upright shorter and use a 120 instead of a 140 cm front. The configurator does this automatically if your van is too low.

How this size comes about

This unit is a frame of 20 × 20 mm aluminium extrusion that goes around the fronts, fastened with corner connectors. So the external size is not a round number we made up, but the result of a sum.

front 40 × 170 cm397 × 1697 mm400440 mm20
The 20 × 20 mm profile runs around the front. The opening is exactly the nominal size, 400 mm, and the actual front is 397 mm — those 3 mm are your fitting clearance, so you do not have to create it yourself. External size: 400 + 2 × 20 = 440 mm.

Fronts in this set

  • 40 × 170 cm(397 × 1697 mm)
External width
400 + 20 × 2 = 443 mm
Frame height
1700 + 20 × 2 = 1740 mm
